The Lowry Hill Residence is a mid-century modern home that stretches along the hillside site a stone’s throw from the Walker Art Center. The site has a commanding view, which the architecture embraces with its orientation and alignment. Colberg|Tews re-imagined the landscape as an extension of the architecture, flowing between the structure and the site and emphasizing the magnificent views. Leading the eye toward a beautiful view of downtown Minneapolis, the pool terrace and fountain provide the focal point of a space well suited for entertaining.
Izzy's is a collaboration with David Salmela Architect overlooking Gold Medal Park and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, MN. As the Landscape Architect, Colberg|Tews provided site and streetscape design and navigation of the municipal approvals.
Situated on a lake point in Prior Lake, MN, the Edgewater residence was sited by the Landscape Architect to frame and capture key views. Extensive shoreline restorations and native grasses and forbs shape the site and frame key spaces.
Lyngblomsten is a multi-disciplinary care, housing, and service community for the aging founded in 1906 by families in the Minnesota Norwegian community. Colberg|Tews was asked to create a long-range vision for their campus and landscape that communicates and lives up to the proud, caring community of residents, staff, and patients within the facility.
Colberg|Tews collaborated with the active community and staff to develop a long range landscape masterplan to regenerate the site with native flora, attract and support regional fauna, and provide amenities that will create a more holistic outdoor living and healing environment for the residents and neighborhood.
Colberg|Tews was invited by the Lake Country School to create a new vision for an Outdoor Montessori Learning Environment that extends their educational mission beyond the classroom walls. Incorporating elements inspired by C. Th. Sorensen, a Danish landscape architect and pioneer of the adventure playground movement, the design moves through the site with spaces designed to support the stages of a child's development allowing them to creatively express themselves and enhance their connection to the natural world.
A collaboration with Snow Kreilich Architects, the Lake Minnetonka Retreat is a clear, contextual response to the enveloping views, striking minimal architecture, and open pastoral site. Pure, reductive geometries organize and shape the entertaining spaces, and short meadows and deliberate vegetative interventions frame the site but remain deferential to the larger context and character.
Situated in an urban neighborhood, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minneapolis underwent a major expansion doubling its size and bridging across the street. The landscape creates a campus character and a sense of connectedness between the parcels. A prominent corner of the site is dedicated as an open space for families, staff, and the neighborhood. The elliptical form of the green and surrounding stand of aspens provide a comforting sense of embrace, respite, and connection to nature beyond the hospital and clinic walls.
